• Idolatry is the worship of idols or images as gods, or the excessive devotion or reverence for something or someone other than the one true God. The term is also used more broadly to describe the excessive or misplaced devotion to anything that takes the place of the ultimate spiritual reality or divine being.The term "spirit of idolatry" is often used in a spiritual or religious context to describe an attitude or inclination that leads individuals away from the worship of the true God and toward the worship of false gods or idols. 

The spirit of idolatry involves engaging in false or misguided worship. Instead of acknowledging and worshiping the true God, individuals may turn to created objects, images, or ideas as substitutes for the divine.
